Non-toxic and sustainable impregnation of wood with bio-based oil – an alternative to impregnation using biocides – step 1

Category: Hypothesis testing projects

The project ran between November 2019 tand May 2020.

The project was part of an over-arching ambition to create a non-toxic and bio-based alternative to creosote and other biocide-based impregnation treatments that can be offered to industrial stakeholders.

The project’s objective was to 1) verify the hypothesis that it is possible to define a bio-based and non-toxic impregnation oil that gives wood a long-term protection against rot fungi, 2) to achieve such a definition and 3) to make a basic analysis of the market viability of a wood material treated according to the definition developed. The project was able to deliver all these objectives.

Participants

Linjonwood AB, RISE AB, Vattenfall eldistribution AB and Trafikverket.

Budget & time plan
