Non-toxic and sustainable impregnation of wood with bio-based oil – step 2

Category: Hypothesis testing projects

The project is about impregnating wood material with bio-based oil for outdoor use in challenging implementations. The project spans areas of use from infrastructure to public decoration where traditional pressure impregnation with toxic (creosote or copper-based) substances is used almost exclusively today. As restrictions are hardening regarding the use of such substances, the project addresses a need for biocide-free, renewable and durable material alternatives for the mentioned areas of use.

Participants

Linjonwood AB, Royal Djurgården Administration, City of Stockholm (Östermalm’s district administration), RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB, RISE Innventia AB and IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute.

Budget & time plan

The project’s total budget is 7 965 640 SEK and the project runs during two years – between May 2021 and April 2023.
