Non-toxic and sustainable impregnation of wood with bio-based oil – step 2

Category: Hypothesis testing projects

The project ran between May 2021 and June 2023.

The project is about impregnating wood material with bio-based oil for outdoor use in challenging implementations. The project spans areas of use from infrastructure to public decoration where traditional pressure impregnation with toxic (creosote or copper-based) substances is used almost exclusively today. As restrictions are hardening regarding the use of such substances, the project addresses a need for biocide-free, renewable and durable material alternatives for the mentioned areas of use.

Participants

Linjonwood AB, Royal Djurgården Administration, City of Stockholm (Östermalm districts administration), RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB and IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute.

Budget

The project’s total budget was 8 MSEK.
