The project ran between December 2021 and August 2022.
The project has development climate-smart cement-based construction products. Climate-smart in that they sequester up to as much carbon (carbon atoms) so it compensate for cement use.
The biochar included in the project was produced from coco husk, waste wood, mixed wood and sawdust. One objective was to use biochar of other types than those currently required for soil application. The recycled wood biochar currently available at the Swedish market unfortunately did not meet the necessary properties identified in the project. The biochar used for the development of products in the project was from cocoa shells and a mix wood biomass.
In the first half of the project, we carried out both laboratory tests and small-scale production of construction products. For two of the project’s cement based products, test production was carried out too (full scale factory testing). Preconditions for biochar preparation techniques (grinding and moistening) were also investigated by test grinding with different milling techniques and determination of the necessary mill requirements for future production.
