The project ran between April 2019 and October 2019.
The purpose of the project was to develop a new sustainable material based on renewable resources that could replace fossil-based EPS in packaging materials. The project’s innovative idea was to replace EPS with a cellulose -based alternative, a technical solution to be directly implementable in today´s production lines of molded EPS-materials. A cellulose-based starting material has been developed in lab-scale and produced in volumes sufficient for full-scale trials. The hypothesis has been tested and validated in lab tests but also evaluated in full-scale tests at LindePac. The starting material was seamlessly processed ind ustrially to produce a first generation cellulose-based foamed material.
