Use of biomaterial as vehicle parts for operation in winter terrain – step 1

Category: Hypothesis testing projects

The project ran between November 2022 and April 2023.

The project has been carried out with weekly coordination meetings where the work in the various work packages has been reported and the next week’s work planned. RISE’s participation in the project has made it possible to gain access to expert knowledge and testing equipment in the various areas. The work packages have given input to each other, and research areas set up in the proposal, as necessary to explore, have been tested and evaluated in order to come up with possible solutions. By manufacturing several different laminates with Papershell’s material with a mixture of other bio-based materials such as cork and linen, the set parameters have been evaluated and both the project’s purpose and goals are fulfilled. It is mainly how sound and vibration damping, impact resistance, strength and heat conduction compares to aluminium. It turns out that the material produced in the project is very well suited for use in the snowmobile. A simplified LCA analysis also shows positive results. Further in-depth tests of the materials should be done, for example in an upcoming project.
