The project ran between August 2023 and September 2025.
Modvion develops, produces, and designs modular towers for wind turbines using renewable laminated spruce. This makes wind power both more competitive and environmentally friendly. The project ‘Stuck in the middle with you’ aims to further develop reliable processes for gluing the joints between the modules in Modvion’s wooden towers in the field.
Performing gluing processes in the field is considered risky within the construction industry because it is difficult to guarantee the conditions required to achieve proper quality, for example regarding temperature and cleanliness.
The SIMWY project was divided into two parts, one part with accredited tests conducted by a third party and one part with method and process development carried out at Modvion. All development aimed to make the construction of wooden towers feasible on a large scale.
The factors the project focused on were:
o Shortening the construction time on the erection site
o Making processes more robust, where operator influence can be a factor
o Creating conditions for performing work in colder climates.
Pre-assembly process: Focus on moving work tasks from the construction site to the factory.
