New bio-based high- and low-pressure laminates with lignin-based resin for the construction and furniture industry – step 1

Category: Hypothesis testing projects

The development of new bio-based materials and reducing fossil fuel use can help reduce the environmental impact. For example, this project aims to turn the abundant pulp mill side stream lignin to a value-added product in the form of lignin-based resin to replace the traditional phenol formaldehyde resin (PF) in high- and low-pressure laminates (HPL and LPL) to meet the market demands. Meanwhile, using lignin as a renewable resource and introducing new technologies in terms of lignin-based resin can create improved material properties, reduce production cost, and create new market opportunities for forestry products in the laminate industry, including construction and furniture.
