Green chemicals from pyrolysis oil as wood preservative and adhesives – step 1

The project ran between November 2021 and July 2022.

The purpose and goal of the project has been to evaluate the potential of extracting green chemicals from pyrolysis oil, from a commercial biochar production facility. The focus has been to Identify and propose fractionation schemes for chemicals, for further validation in future projects the green chemicals, technically and market-wise, and propose methods to fractionate, separate and purify them.

Moreover, the project has investigated the possibility of using pyrolysis oil or fractions thereof, as mold protection for wood. The possibility of a continuation project, for further tests and up-scaling, has been continuously validated.

Participants

Enivgas Technology AB (LTD), Holmen Wood Products AB (LTD) and Luleå University of Technology.
