Biomass recycled air filters – BioReFil – step 2

Global air purification market is very large and is expected to grow to about USD 51.4 billion by 2032 from the current size of USD 12.7 billion (2021). Racoon Miljöfilter is an innovative SME, with a special patented coating that allows additional and multiple functions, such as removal of dangerous gases and deactivation of harmful pathogens and spores. They currently sell air filters in high-performance machinery typically to companies such as Caterpillar, Volvo, Boliden Mining, Sandvik, amongst others. Particle filters are typically fossil-based polymers (e.g. polyurethanes and/or blends with polyesters), or glass fibres. In this step-2 project, key biomass suppliers (ShareTex AB, Oppigårds Bryggeri AB) and up-scaling partner (MoRe Research AB) are joining us to take this concept to the next level. This circular and sustainable ecosystem of valorizing waste biomass from brewery and textile industry (together accounting for millions of tons of waste biomass produced annually), will make these new BioReFils sustainable and high-value multifunctional product.

Participants

RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB, Racoon Miljöfilter AB, MoRe Research Örnsköldsvik AB, ShareTex AB and Oppigårds Bryggeri AB.

Budget & time plan

The project’s total budget is 4,3 MSEK and the project runs for two years – between November 2022 and November 2024.
