The proposal aims to develop an antibacterial, biodegradable medical mesh from biological materials to address healthcare and environmental challenges. Traditional non-degradable meshes often cause severe complications, including infections and increased healthcare costs. The project’s innovative mesh seeks to reduce infection rates and combat antibiotic resistance, supporting UN Sustainable Goals. With promising preliminary data, the project combines Uppsala University’s expertise in controlled antibiotic release with Novus Scientific’s leadership in biodegradable mesh technology. This innovation promotes a circular economy by using renewable resources, reducing waste, and lowering emissions, contributing to UN climate and sustainability goals.
