The project ran between October 2022 and October 2024.
The project, a collaboration between Blue Ocean Closures AB, Swed-Jam AB, and RISE Research Institute of Sweden, aimed to develop a sustainable, fiber-based lid to replace traditional metal closures. We successfully designed and validated the product on an industrial filling line for jams, demonstrating its mechanical functionality and sealing capabilities under realistic production conditions. A comparative LCA confirmed the innovative solution’s reduced carbon emissions, and recyclability as paper was proven through recycling test conducted by RISE. Work toward achieving a commercially viable product will continue following the conclusion of this project.
