Agricultural residues are an underutilized resource, therefore a possible utilization within forest-based industry is desirable to support a development towards a circular bioeconomy. The purpose of this hypothesis testing is to investigate the technical-, market- and sustainability potential to utilize residual material from agriculture for production of textile- and specialty cellulose.
Södra has during recent years developed technologies to use agricultural residues in the production of paper pulp to enhance product properties. Within the textile- and specialty cellulose segments the requirements on product properties are different and purity requirements are higher, consequently a new production concept is needed to enable an extended value creation of the agricultural residues.
Participants
Södra and Chalmers University of Technology.
