The project ran between November 2019 and June 2022.
One of the major unresolved emission sources is the generation of high quality process heat. Today, fossil gas, natural gas or LPG is burned to generate heat for production processes such as drying tissue paper, burning ceramics and melting steel, glass and aluminium. At the same time, large amounts of residual products from biomass are burned on agricultural fields or in inefficient boilers that generate air pollution. In some cases, the residual products end up in a landfill without being circulated.
The project was based on and adapted Meva Energy’s gasification technology together with Finnish Enviroburner’s burner solution to produce a system that could be tested and evaluated together with the research organizations RISE Energy Technology Center and RISE Samhällsbyggnad. The tissue producing company Sofidel has been the recipient of the project as a user.
The project succeeded in simplifying the gas purification system, developing a burner adapted to low-calorie syngas and making the solution so commercially attractive that the world’s first installation is now being built at Sofidel’s mill in Kisa.
Participants
Meva Energy AB, RISE ETC, RISE Samhällsbyggnad, Sofidel Sweden AB and Andritz (Enviroburners) (Finland).
Budget
The project´s budget was 9,2 MSEK.
