This project is focused on making elastomeric (rubber like) materials based on biobased sources in general and lignin in particular. Lignin is a polymeric constituent of plants, which may be obtained as byproduct from pulping or through other processes.
Lignin is today an underutilized natural resource which could serve a great purpose in the rubber industry. Preliminary results in laboratory scale indicate that lignin based elastomers is a promising concept – this project aims at accelerating this development towards industrial processes.
Participants
RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Trelleborg Industries, Trelleborg Mixing Forsheda, BASF, Lixea Sweden AB and Metgen Oy.
Budget & time plan
The project’s total budget is 2,2 MSEK and the project runs for 24 months – between June 2024 and June 2026.
